The stay dry Initiative

The Stay Dry Initiative is a fantastic program that aims to help homeless individuals in Tennessee stay dry during inclement weather. The initiative encourages people in the community to donate items such as tents, raincoats/jackets, and rain boots to those in need. By providing these essential items, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of homeless individuals and help them stay comfortable and protected from the elements.

One of the key items that the Stay Dry Initiative encourages people to donate is tents. When it rains, finding shelter becomes a top priority for homeless individuals. Tents provide a safe and dry space for them to seek refuge during rainstorms. Additionally, tents can offer a sense of privacy and security that is often lacking for those living on the streets. By donating tents, we can help create a more dignified and humane living environment for homeless individuals.

In addition to tents, raincoats/jackets and rain boots are also crucial items that can greatly benefit homeless individuals. During rainy weather, staying dry can be a challenge for anyone, but it can be especially difficult for those without a permanent roof over their heads. By donating raincoats/jackets and rain boots, we can help homeless individuals stay dry and comfortable, reducing the risk of illness and providing a much-needed sense of comfort and protection.

For the safety and security of our volunteers and the homeless individuals we serve, we have implemented a policy to only meet and pick up donations at your local middle Tennessee police station. This policy may seem unusual, but it is crucial for the well-being of everyone involved. Let me explain our reasoning behind this decision.

First and foremost, meeting at the police station ensures the safety of our volunteers. Homelessness is a complex issue, and unfortunately, there are risks associated with working directly with homeless individuals. By meeting at the police station, we have an added layer of protection in case any unforeseen circumstances arise. The police station is a known safe space with security measures in place, giving our volunteers peace of mind as they carry out their important work.

Additionally, meeting at the police station provides a level of security for the homeless individuals we assist. Unfortunately, there have been instances of dishonest individuals posing as volunteers for their own personal gain. By conducting our donation pickups at the police station, we can verify the legitimacy of individuals requesting assistance. This helps to prevent any potential exploitation or scams, ensuring that our resources are directed towards those who truly need them.
